Simple yet effective tips from the experts for aspirant book reviewers out there

Book reviews are undeniably helpful, so let the experts guide you and keep in mind the following tips as you write:

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD

  • Be aware of your word count and deadline. If you don’t know for sure, ask the editors or the team in charge of publishing your written review to verify both of these facts.

  • You should include the title of the book or books you’re reviewing and the writers’ names in your book review title. Keep the whole title and author names precisely as they appear on your published book in mind when submitting your manuscript.

  • Include a mention of the book’s intended audience in the opening paragraph of your review if you know it—comment on whether or not the book is suitable for the audience in question.

  • Comment on the qualifications of the author or writers, particularly if the book is an academic or scientific work.

  • In the opening few paragraphs of the review, discuss the quality, clarity, correctness, helpfulness, and accessibility of the information.

  • Describe the book’s unique selling point.

  • Describe the book’s positive and negative aspects for the reader. Include excerpts from the book where appropriate and discuss any issue you think the author(s) did a good job writing about.

  • Discuss any subjects the author or writers omitted that you think are important.

  • To summarize your review, point out comparable or rival titles and discuss how your book stacks up against them.

You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.
